How did you end up moving from Belgrade to Prague?
In 1992 the Czech Republic was one of the few countries that would take us as immigrants. I remember that up to 1995 thousands of Yugoslavs were living in Prague. Maybe it was easier to decide on Prague, because before that, I spent one year living in New York. For me, the Czech Republic is far more ideal for living than America, because it is in the heart of Europe and only 900km from Belgrade, about nine hours by car.
Do you often visit Belgrade? Where do you stay?
At my mom's place. My wife Katarina, also from Belgrade, goes with me everywhere as I travel, right now we are together in London, where Harry Potter is being filmed. Otherwise, we are staying in Prague. The reason for visiting my city is not just to see my mother, but many friends, whom I miss when I'm in Prague.
You graduated acting school at FDU in 1986. Have you tried theatre?
Yes. For a few years, I was a regular member of the cast for "Bosko Buha", and I acted in scenes of "Atreljea 212" and "Zvezdara" theatre. Nevertheless, since I moved to the Czech Republic, I am no longer in theatre, because there is a strong regular engagement, at certain theatres, which is not good or practical for me. I like to be a free artist, so that nothing bothers me for a new project.
Do you miss anything other than family and friends when you're in the Czech Republic?
Yes, the night life in Belgrade. Not long ago, after 11:00 p.m. I had a wish to go out to a bar and have a mug of beer. However, I could not get a drink, since alcohol is only allowed up to 11:00 p.m. And on weekends it's worse, since Friday-Monday, almost no cafes are open.
